Another great time was had by all when Maumee Valley Civitan bought out the house for a performance by the Village Players to include a pre-performance and intermission receptions. This was a unique and fun-filled event that allowed people with developmental disabilities to enjoy the show, mingle, and interact with people who do not have disabilities. Our sponsors included Poole's Printing, Great Lakes Marketing, Riker Insurance, Kroger, One Stop Carryout, TRIAD Residential Solutions and Buckeye Cablesystem. Civitans are everyday citizens who come together in communities throughout the world to make life better for their neighbors. Family, friends, neighbors and co-workers meet at local Civitan clubs to socialize, learn and serve in their communities. Starting with just a single club, and a vision for helping others, Civitan has grown to over 40,000 members in 24 countries, including youth and college programs. Founded on the most basic moral and spiritual values, Civitans’ commitment to identify and address needs in their communities have set them apart from other social and service organizations. I AM CIVITAN: as old as life, as young as the rainbow, as endless as time. MY HANDS do the work of the world and reach out in service to others. MY EARS hear the cry of children and the call throughout the world for peace, guidance, progress and unity. MY EYES search for others to join in the fellowship and service of Civitan. MY MOUTH utters the call to daily duty and speaks prayers in every tongue. MY MIND teaches me respect for law and the flag of my country. MY HEART beats for every friend, bleeds for every injury to humanity and throbs with joy at every triumph of truth. MY SOUL knows no fear but its own unworthiness. MY HOPE is for a better world through Civitan. MY MOTTO: builders of good citizenship. MY BELIEF: do unto others as you would have them do unto you. MY PLEDGE: to practice the Golden Rule and to build upon it a better and nobler citizenship. Focus on developmental disabilities On an international level, Civitan is devoted to improving the lives of children and adults with developmental disabilities. This focus began in the 1950s when Civitan funded some of the first special education training for school teachers. That commitment continues today through local and international efforts such as summer camps, vocational programs, Special Olympic games and cutting-edge research into Autism, Cerebral Palsy and Alzheimers at the Civitan International Research Center.
